Rest For My Soul - 31 Days

Five Minute Sunday?  Not really, but you know how it works:  Write for five minutes and click Publish.  No major editing, no perfectionism.  Just go for it.  Click the logo at the bottom of this post for more information, or click my logo on the left to catch up on my 31 Days posts.

Today the writing prompt is REST.

It's a fairly well-known passage in the Bible:
Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. (Matthew 11:28-29)
Ever feel soul-weary?  Just so worn out that you feel as though you have nothing more to give?  How precious, then, is Jesus' offer of "rest for your soul"?  I can't tell you how many times I've turned to that promise.

When I'm depressed, when I'm stressed, when I'm simply exhausted.  When I feel anxious or just empty.  I yearn for that rest for my soul.  I've never found it except in Christ.

Yes, He sometimes works through His people.  My husband will hold me, or a friend will talk with me and pray with me.  But in the end, it's always Jesus who gives me rest.  It's always Jesus who gives me peace.  I don't know where else we can get that kind of peace, at any time, at any cost.  It's always Jesus.

  1. Thank you for this...
It is embarrassing to say, but this is a great reminder... I tend to forget at times... so I needed this today!
