Today the writing prompt is REST.
It's a fairly well-known passage in the Bible:
Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. (Matthew 11:28-29)Ever feel soul-weary? Just so worn out that you feel as though you have nothing more to give? How precious, then, is Jesus' offer of "rest for your soul"? I can't tell you how many times I've turned to that promise.
When I'm depressed, when I'm stressed, when I'm simply exhausted. When I feel anxious or just empty. I yearn for that rest for my soul. I've never found it except in Christ.
Yes, He sometimes works through His people. My husband will hold me, or a friend will talk with me and pray with me. But in the end, it's always Jesus who gives me rest. It's always Jesus who gives me peace. I don't know where else we can get that kind of peace, at any time, at any cost. It's always Jesus.
