Smash Book It!

I haven't done any scrapbooking in forever.  YEARS.  It's fun once I get started, but it's tiresome to drag out boxes of supplies (and put them away afterward).  Then I saw a Smash Book on a clearance rack.  Very cool:  the pages have designs, so you can attach your photos and memorabilia without having to add patterned paper, embellishments, and so on.  They do, however, sell coordinating embellishments; some are decorative and some serve as writing prompts.
The book I saw in the store was the Wedding edition, but it got me looking for other versions.  I ordered the Smash 365 Folio, but it wasn't what I was looking for.  The designed pages run from January through December, so it wouldn't make sense to start now.  It also has pages for holidays and occasions that not everyone celebrates (e.g., St. Patrick's Day, Earth Day, Halloween).  It doesn't have pages that aren't associated with holidays.  I set it aside to start in January.

So last week I bought a "Doodle Red" Smash Folio (pictured above).  Its pages are designed, too, but all could be used for any occasion.  Or none:  one page is a Top Ten list (of anything you want), and another is for things you like.  So today I made my first page:

I don't think this light blue page is intended to be used--it's just to separate the cover from the designed pages--but I used it anyway.  Even though it's a solid-colored page, I let go of the need to make it perfect.  I just "smashed" everything in.  I glued in some of what my husband and I had collected on our recent weekend in Mystic, Connecticut.  Most of these items are torn from advertisements.  "La Luna" is from the restaurant brochure.  "Sabino" is a ticket from the half-hour steamboat cruise, and "Mystic Seaport" is a piece of a wristband.  I pasted it in, made a few quick notes, and called it done.

It's so easy, and for me, it put the fun back into scrapbooking.

Note:  This is not a sponsored product review.  I purchased everything mentioned, and no one asked me to write about it.  None of the links are affiliate links.  I just wanted to share my enthusiasm about this fun product!

  2. I bought a SmashBook not too long ago that was also on clearance. I love scrapbooking, but I'm like you. I really need to be in the mood to take everything out and put everything away. I've actually been smash booking and didn't know it. I have a large black notebook that I have smashed stuff in. I just have a problem throwing stuff in.

Great post! And thanks for giving me permission to really smash in my SmashBook.
