Progress Report

'Smile' photo (c) 2009, LawPrieR - license:"Progress is almost never a straight line."  So says my doctor, and I believe she's right.

I think it's been a while since I posted about how things are going.  It's been up and down but, increasingly, more up than down.

Sometime in the spring my family doctor sent me for another consultation with a specialist.  We agreed that I should see the same specialist I'd met last year.  She and I had a very frank conversation about my depression and the range of options for treating it.  Doctors have been tweaking the combination of meds for several years and I'm still in pain.

We decided, for now, to keep tweaking.  With her knowledge and experience, though, she's able to make changes more rapidly than my family doctor was.  Already she has dropped two meds and reduced the dosage of another.  I've also started taking Abilify, which you may have seen advertised.  I think that has had the largest positive effect.  It's expensive--thank God for medical insurance, without which we could not afford this--but I think it's helping significantly.

I have good days and bad days.  I sleep more than I'd like to.  But overall I'm doing better!

By the way, I'm scheduled for another diagnostic mammogram on Friday.  The last one raised some questions, and this is a follow-up.  I covet your prayers for clear results.  Thank you!

  1. Thanks for the update, Melissa. I'm encouraged that the up is exceeding the down, even though the down remains. Praying the new combination of meds will help, and that you'll get good news on Friday.

  2. I'm sorry you are still on the medical treadmill but at least it sounds as if progress is being made. I will pray.

  3. praying for a good report from your mammo!! yes....thank the Lord for good health insurance!! something I never want to take for granted....

  4. thanks for the update...
    been thinking about you....
    hope today went okay...
    hugs to you...
