New to the area, Chloe Humphrey is alarmed by the attacks and decides to conduct her own investigation. As you might imagine, this draws her into the center of a complex and dangerous situation.
I peeked ahead to see how many chapters were in the book, and I inadvertently found out whodunnit. Even so, A Plain Scandal by Amanda Flower was a page-turner. The short chapters (of which there are 50, by the way) made it even more tempting to read "just one more."
I read that the author likes to include comic relief through minor characters, and I found that to be true for A Plain Scandal. I laughed out loud at this exchange between two older men:
"Do they have cinnamon rolls? I heart those."
"Heart? What are you talking about, you nut?"
"That's what my granddaughter says. She hearts everything. I'm trying out the lingo, so I can connect with the young folks. I figure she's less likely to stick me in a home that way."If you're looking for a fast-paced adventure set in an Amish community, check out A Plain Scandal.
