Friday's Fave Five: January 25

Seems like forever since I participated in Friday's Fave Five.  Thanks for stopping by!

I am delighted to be able to write a FFF post that doesn't start with "It's been a rough week."  In fact, it's been a pretty good week!  Here's why:
  1. My husband and I had a date night, and we saw Mark Schultz in concert.  He's a great storyteller as well as a musician, and the show was just fabulous.  Afterward DH and I stopped at Applebee's--we never thought we'd be there for half-price appetizers after 10pm--and stayed until midnight.  This is so not something we typically do, and it was fun!
  2. Without really trying, I've lost eight pounds.  One of my meds has weight gain as a side effect, so this was a happy surprise.
  3. I've been on the same combination of meds since November, and I've been feeling pretty good.  I'll see the doctor on Saturday, and I have to decide whether I want to trade "pretty good" for the chance to feel better, at the risk of feeling worse.  It's like "Let's Make a Deal" ... "Do you want to trade this toaster for what's behind Door Number 2?"
  4. After a few months away, I went back to my Bible study this week.  It was so good to see everyone, to share prayer requests, and to get back into the study.
  5. I decided to learn to crochet, and I'm working on my first project.  Our church has a ministry that gives handmade items to people in need.  The current project is scarves and caps for cancer patients.  I'm working on a scarf:

  1. So glad you're participating in the FFF!! I just linked mine up and didn't see yours.....found you on my home page :) Sounds like you had a lovely date! I don't know what you take meds for but I'll say a prayer that your doc will find the perfect one that will get you well soon! Enjoy the weekend...we're having bitter cold temps here in eastern NY so I plan on staying in most of the weekend!!

  2. Sounds like a lovely week!! What a wonderful date night with your hubby. And yay for half off at Applebees. we have a restaurant that does that every Monday evening and we like to go every now and then for a treat.

Good for you losing the weight. 8 pounds off without trying is awesome!

I'm saying a prayer that your doctor helps you make the right decision regarding meds.

Glad you were able to get back to your Bible Study group - good fellowship and teaching is such an encouragement.

    Pretty colours in your scarf.

    Happy weekend!

  3. I would love to learn to crochet but not sure an old dog can learn new tricks! Good for you! Thank you for sharing your FFF today! Simply God's Girl

  4. Welcome back, Melissa! Nice to see your link come up! Glad to hear the meds were working pretty good for you. Saying a prayer that God, who knows everything, would give you the wisdom on what to do with that decision! Your date night sounds like lots of fun with your hubby. My hubby's an early to bed, early to rise kind of guy so for us to be out that late constitutes a bit of a miracle. LOL.

  5. It seems like many have been having rough weeks. Glad some bright spots showed up for you!

The date night sounds really fun!

And wow, a surprise weight loss is definitely a blessing!

So many times medical decisions are that way...hoping and praying for wisdom in which way to go.

  6. hi Melissa! i saw your comment..thanks! And no the soup really doesn't have a spinach-y flavor because you only add the spinach leaves at the very end....they only are in the pot for about 2 min til they JUST start to wilt. It is SOOOO good! of course you could make it minus the spinach and just use fresh parsley.

  7. So glad for this happy post!!!
I love your posts that are like this! :)
Learning to crochet? I tried once... and all I could manage looked like a scarf for a worm, I could not make it wider... just longer! ha ha ha

  8. SO glad to see you again, and to hear things are looking good. Praying for wisdom as you "choose your door" this coming week.

Don't you love that fellowship? Seems sweeter sometimes after you've been away from it. Hope this next week is a good one for you, too.

  9. Thanks for letting us know about Applebee's half-price appetizers. I didn't know that. You're doing a great job on your scarf. It looks pretty! I hope and pray that the Lord will give you and the doctor wisdom regarding your medications.

Thank you for visiting my blog. Have a blessed weekend!
