News and Notes

Last week I had my two-week post-radiation follow-up with the radiation oncologist.  She is pleased with my progress, even though I'm getting impatient that it's taking so long!

To celebrate the end of my treatments, my family took a three-day weekend trip to the Washington, DC, area.  Our main purpose was to attend DC Fest, an indoor music festival featuring some of our favorite musical artists:  Michael W. Smith, Steven Curtis Chapman, Kutless, Big Daddy Weave, Matthew West, Sidewalk Prophets, and Jonny Diaz.

Big Daddy Weave is my favorite band, and their music was excellent as always.  The surprise for me was that, after the set, they came out to meet fans.  Lead singer Mike Weaver is so down-to-earth and likable.  When I said that we'd come to celebrate the end of my cancer treatments and to praise God with them, he seemed genuinely happy.

The best surprise for me was Jonny Diaz.  I knew one or two of his songs from radio, but his set proved that not only is he very talented, but he is also very funny.  He also came out to meet fans and take a few minutes to chat.

We built plenty of rest time into the trip (good thing, because I was still tired!), but we also took a tour of the Pentagon and visited the National Air and Space Museum, Udvar-Hazy Center.  I'm not overly interested in aviation, but it's hard not to be impressed when you stand next to the Space Shuttle Enterprise, the Concorde, or the Boeing B-29 Superfortress.

I am in the process of trying to get caught up without getting over-tired.  I also need to get prepared for the upcoming school year.  So while I'm trying to get back into a blogging routine, I have a few other priorities as well. :)

  1. It sounds like you had a great trip. I am very pleased for you. I pray that you continue to heal according to God's purposes.

  2. Glad you had some time to get away with your family and "celebrate" :) Looks like you had a fabulous time and how neat that the guys actually took time to talk with the fans

  3. Your trip sounds wonderful. Glad you are doing so well. Get rest whenever you can.

Oh and thanks so much for the heads up about the Crest sample being gone.

  4. What a great trip -- a great thing to celebrate! My boys loved that museum. I would have just loved that concert, Melissa. Take care. Enjoy the new school year.

  5. I'm super extra glad you were able to do something fun and interesting for a weekend. Congrats on the end of the treatment and I'm sure your energy will return soon enough. It's a good time to realize how much we need to rest our bodies even when we're completely healthy.

Don't worry about catching up - everything will be just fine. So glad to see you around. Talk to you soon.

  6. wow
so glad that yall had a great getaway!
hope yall are safe from harm with all this nasty weather...
    hugs to you!
glad you got to meet them!
