Digital Scrapbooking with My Memories Suite (Review and Giveaway)

For me, the idea of digital scrapbooking software is very appealing.  After all, the biggest deterrents to keeping up with my scrapbooking are dragging out all the supplies and ordering prints of our digital photos.

A few years ago I tried a demo of a software product, but it was so limiting and so frustrating that I quickly gave up.  It wasn't just that the demo was limited, but that the product itself didn't allow much more than plugging my photos into their templates.

Recently, however, I had the opportunity to try My Memories Suite.  I haven't spent a lot of time with it yet, but so far I am sold on it!  The software includes templates, but also offers the user the choice to be creative in various ways.

For example, when I set out to make this page, I encountered many choices, including these:
  • Choose a pre-designed template or create my own
  • Choose a page size and format:  8.5 x 11 inches, 11 x 8.5 inches, 12 x 12 inches
  • Choose a style (casual, classic, collage, and so on)
  • Choose a background paper, color, texture
The page you see above is the very first one that I made, and I know that I've hardly made a dent in what this software can do.  When I ran out of time to play, I was just reading about the different ways to adjust alignment:  for example, you can select objects and align them, or you can overlay a temporary grid.  (I obviously ran out of time before I mastered that technique.)

I scribbled a lot of notes while I tried out My Memories Suite, but I'll extract some highlights for you:
  • I had a bit of trouble downloading and installing the software.  However, since my computer has been a bit flaky lately, I am hesitant to say that the software or My Memories website is responsible.
  • Pages you create are stored in albums, so you can organize them as you like.
  • Coordinating colors is easy, thanks to consistent names.  For example, the background paper I used is the Small Jewel pattern in Sunflower.  I used a rectangle of Sunflower behind my text box.  Many of the embellishments (brads, buttons, ribbon, stitching--all with multiple variations) come in the same series of colors.  I used Magnolia White to mat my photos and Jet Black for the buttons, but I could have color-matched them.  Or, if you prefer, you can "eyedropper" a color, use RGB values to define a color, or ... well, probably every way I've ever seen to choose a color!
  • You can choose to use the same background, mat color, etc., for every page in an album.  Whether you are looking for ease or consistency, I can see an advantage to that option.
  • Icons for the actions are intuitive.  I didn't need to use the Help feature until I wanted to align objects.  Moving, deleting, and resizing objects are simple functions; bringing a layer to the front or pushing it to the back are accomplished in familiar ways.
  • My Memories Suite includes a good selection of papers, colors, embellishments, and other page elements.  The website offers some free add-on kits, or you can purchase additional items.
  • When you are finished with an album, you have more choices.  The pages can be printed (individually or in a bound book), shared online, burned to CD or DVD, and more.  I like the idea of being able to share scrapbook pages with friends and family who aren't local!
I am very excited about using My Memories Suite digital scrapbooking software; I feel as though I could write three more pages and still not tell you everything about it!  Because of that, I'm happy to be able to give away a copy of the software (courtesy of to one of you--and to offer a discount code to all of you!
