The Very Best Parts of a Very Good Week (Friday's Fave Five)

This week has flown by, helped by the fact that it was just a four-day work week here in the U.S. The results of my pathology report were a clear highlight, so I'll get right to my Friday's Fave Five list!
  1. On Tuesday my surgeon called with the pathology results.  The sample contained more cancer cells (no surprise), but the margins were negative.  That means that we're finished with surgery.  On Thursday she checked my incision and, happy with the way it's healing, referred me to a radiation oncologist and a medical oncologist.  My first appointment is just over a week away.  The joy of moving ahead to the next phase completely overrides the disappointment of gaining a few pounds.  I think it's because of the treatments:  the ice cream, the tapioca pudding ....
  2. My church family sent a gorgeous bouquet of flowers.  The combination of roses, lilies, mums, carnations ... reds, yellows, pinks ... is just beautiful.  You can see a few photos in my power of encouragement post, and more here:

  3. Starbucks ice cream was on sale this week and for my son (not a fan of coffee), we purchased a pint of Signature Hot Chocolate.  The flavor is described as "velvety, indulgent Chocolate ice cream and delightfully smooth Vanilla ice cream all swirled with rich chocolate fudge."  I am not usually a fan of fudge ripple ice cream, but this was the Best. Fudge Ripple. Ever.  I enjoyed the Caramel Macchiato ice cream, too, but the first flavor was a happy surprise.
  4. I reconnected with a friend from high school, thanks to Facebook.  I've stayed in touch with only one friend from school--and I don't seek out many of them now--so this was really neat.
  5. A new idea of a way to serve in my church has been on my heart for a few months.  I mentioned it to my pastor, who encouraged me to collect more information and put together a tentative plan.  I'm excited at the prospect!
What have been the best parts of your week?

  8. So glad your margins were clear after surgery, I have to have another surgery because my margins were not clear. Did they stage your cancer? Don't worry about the weight gain, it happens, and you'll have the rest of your life to take it off.

  9. What a relief it must have been to get that report! I hope the treatments are not too difficult.

The flowers are absolutely beautiful! What a nice arrangement!

I have been very happy to reconnect with some of my good friends, too. It's so easy to lose touch - facebook is a nice way of keeping friendships alive in between christmas cards. :)

    That ice cream sounds amazing.

  11. Wahoo on your health news!I hope this next phase of healing goes just as well.
I didn't know that Starbucks had an ice cream. I don't usually check out that aisle b/c I can get myself into trouble too easily (lots of cartons in the cart before I know). Now I just may have to try some.
