Before I start radiation treatments, I needed a post-op mammogram. After everything else, I thought this would be the easy part of the process.
In the waiting room, I was chatting with another woman who was having diagnostic images done. The tech called her into a room across the hallway, and through the open door I saw her shake hands with the radiologist. She listened for a few seconds, nodded, then turned back with a smile.
After she disappeared into the changing room, the tech called my name: "It's your turn." The doctor introduced himself and shook my hand. But instead of hearing that everything was fine and I could go on my way, I heard, "Have a seat."
(Does anyone say Have a seat before you get good news?)
The radiologist explained that the images couldn't be easily interpreted. He said that he would contact the radiation oncologist, and I asked him to bring my surgeon into the loop, as well. By the time I got home, the oncologist had left a phone message in which she suggested that I follow up with the surgeon.
Later in the afternoon I talked with the surgeon, who had spoken with the radiologist. (Confused yet? I am!) I'll see her later this week, so she can look at the films and give me her recommendation.
My gut feeling is that this is just a small bump in the road, and I won't need an additional biopsy. I hope that's not just wishful thinking. Please keep praying! Regardless of the outcome, I have many reasons for hope and joy.
2 Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. 3 For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. (James 1:2-3, NLT)
Praying for you. I have been there too. Once they find a suspicious thing they keep proding. Just remember no matter how inconvenient and unsettling it is, cling to God with the tightest of grips. When I went through this, I did it in my own strength, didn't reach for God, and missed the blessing. Praying for God's will instead of our comfort...
