Radiation Therapy Update: All Good

Varian radiation therapy machinephoto © 2007 Dina-Roberts Wakulczyk | more info (via: Wylio)My first two radiation treatments went fine.  The procedure is similar to the setup, but much quicker and without the x-rays.  The positioning takes five or ten minutes; the treatment itself, less than five.  It feels like ... nothing.  The therapist compared it to an x-ray, except that it lasts longer.

The machine in this picture looks more like the one I've seen.  Doesn't it look like it's reaching out to hug you? :)

On the second day, I arrived at the cancer center to find that the schedule was backed up because of a power outage.  But that brought an unexpected blessing:  three other women in the waiting room were having an impromptu support group meeting.  Everyone has a different story, but finding common ground was not difficult.

I spoke mostly to a woman who has had an extraordinarily difficult six months.  In addition to coping with her own cancer, she has had to deal with illnesses in her family, a significant loss, financial difficulties, and depression.  All I could do was listen, encourage, and promise to pray.  My own depression has been flaring up, but in comparison to her situation, mine sounds like a fairy tale.  God has a way of putting things into perspective for us!

Glad all is going well for you with your treatments and that you are able to be a "light" in the midst of the darkness.

Good luck with everything. You are in my prayers, and on the prayer list in my Sunday School class.
