Homemade Cleaning Products

Got feet?  Got stink?

Now that I'm the mom in my family, I long for the canvas sneakers of my childhood.  Today's athletic shoes, which aren't machine-washable, tend to accumulate a significant odor long before they wear out.  I've tried airing them out, spraying them with disinfectant ... almost everything short of setting them on fire, I think ... to try to get rid of the smell.

That's why I was so happy to find a recipe for Smell Buster on this page of recipes for homemade cleaning products from Reader's Digest Canada.

The recipe for Smell Buster is simple:
Mix a few drops of antibacterial essential oil (such as lavender, tea-tree or rosemary) into some bicarbonate of soda. Pack the mixture into a sock or stocking and stuff it into your sneakers or shoes . Leave in overnight to deodorise. When re-using the mixture, add extra oil.
Other recipes on the site include all-purpose kitchen cleaner, dishwashing liquid, moth repellent, and more.  All are created to be all-natural, chemical-free, and non-toxic.

Disclosure:  This is a sponsored post, brought to you by Reader's Digest Canada.  I was not told what to write, and all of the opinions and personal experiences shared in this post are my own (or, in the case of the smelly shoes, those of my family members who shall remain nameless).
