No-Bake Chocolate Wafer Dessert

For as long as I can remember, I've thought the FAMOUS Chocolate Refrigerator Roll looked like fun.  With just three ingredients, it's easy enough to make!

I always imagine that it'll turn out like this:

Last week I found myself with two cups of heavy cream that had to be used.  I bought the chocolate wafers (with a coupon:  why don't these cookies ever go on sale?).  Then I saw a recipe for Black Forest Trifle and decided to layer my ingredients in a container rather than make a roll.  Given the opportunity, I would have added some pudding and/or cherries, but I didn't have the time or ingredients.

I whipped the cream with a little vanilla and a little sugar, then layered it into a container with the chocolate wafers.  When I ran out of wafers, I spread the remaining whipped cream over the top.  We didn't try it until it had been in the refrigerator for about 24 hours.

The dessert tasted wonderful:  similar to cookies-and-cream ice cream, but with more cookies and not as cold.  (I didn't try freezing it.)  However, it didn't look beautiful:  by the time I spooned it into bowls, it was sort of just mush.

Next time, I'm going to try to make it in the form of a cake.  You can see an example of a cake here and a mini-cake here (the owners of those photos don't allow downloads)--and here's one used as a birthday cake:

So easy, yet so yummy!
