Buzzed Driving is Drunk Driving: Labor Day Edition

Did you know that in 2008, just over the Labor Day holiday weekend, 194 people were killed in crashes involving an impaired driver?

My husband and I, and most of our friends, don't drink alcohol at all.  But any of us could be part of these statistics because of someone else's bad judgment.

This Labor Day, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Ad Council are reminding people to plan ahead and designate a sober driver for any Labor Day celebration because "Buzzed Driving is Drunk Driving."

What can we do to help?
  • Visit the Buzzed Driving is Drunk Driving website to learn more and to sign a pledge not to drink and drive.
  • Follow Buzzed Driving is Drunk Driving on Twitter for updated information.
  • Find 50 recipes for nonalcoholic drinks on the Facebook page of Buzzed Driving is Drunk Driving.
  • Share the Designated Driver badge, above.  Click on the "+" in the badge for details.
  • Get a Reality Check to see which of your friends might be affected by an alcohol-impaired crash in your lifetime.
  • Know about alternative ride home programs in your area.
  • If you're going out and planning to drink, please arrange in advance to have a sober designated driver.
Drunk driving is a deadly act that ends thousands of lives each year.  I hope you'll do what you can to help spread the word and reduce those numbers!
