We Are the Body - What's Your Legacy?

If We Are the Body...Today Gina writes about how people will remember us after we're gone.  Here's a short excerpt from her post:
So…what is it that I want to be remembered for? A clean house? Making the perfect meals all “from scratch?” Always being put together? No. That’s not what I want. I don’t think that is what God wants either.
These are the questions she raises:
If the Father were to call you Home today, what kind of testimony would you leave behind?

What would people remember about you?
This is a tough one for me, because of everything that's going on in my life right now.  I can say with certainty that I won't be remembered for keeping a spotless house or always being put together!  But especially today, when the depression is winning and I feel as though I can't do anything right, it's hard to think about what people will remember about me.

I hope that my family would know that everything I did was for love.  The home-cooked meals, the clean socks, the "bottomless" shampoo bottles, the "self-refilling" prescriptions ... all of these things tend to go unnoticed unless they're not done ... but what I do for my family is done out of love and a desire to bless them.

I hope that my friends--my church family, my "real life" friends, and my online friends--would remember me as a genuine, transparent, and encouraging person.  And, especially for my church family, I hope that they'd remember me as someone who was willing to pitch in and help with whatever needs to be done.  Some of the tasks that need to be done are decidedly unglamorous (e.g., sweeping the floors), and some are outside my comfort zone (e.g., greeting visitors, which is a challenge for an introvert like me), but I gave my best and God filled in the gaps by His grace.  I am learning every day that His grace is sufficient and "when I am weak, then I am strong."  I hope that, too, would be part of what people would remember about me.

So ... if you were to leave this world today, what would you like people to remember about you?  Read more or link up your own post At The Well.

  2. Great list! It is so hard sometimes to go through each day of your to do list and keep the right attitude through somewhat "tedious" tasks. But, each and every day you are shaping souls! And what a legacy that is!

    Thanks so much for sharing!

  3. What would I like to remembered for? Wow, I don't know that I've ever thought about it deeply. I hope my family and loved ones will know that - like you said - everything I did was out of love and recognize my contributions to the family that may not have been noticed. I'd also like to know that people would remember me for my writing: That it either entertained them, helped them, encouraged them, blessed them...

I know that currently my life may not reflect much to anyone outside of my home (in a godly way or whatever) because I never really go anywhere. I guess it's possible that my interaction with a cashier or something could be remembered.

It's the things that God will count that I need to work on.
