Degree for Men: Don't Fret the Sweat

locker room
I've successfully blocked out most of my memories of gym class.  I'd rather not think about the days of running laps around the field and being chosen last every time.  I was good at only one sport:  archery.  That was rarely available, so I usually got stuck with an activity that crushed my self-esteem or a teacher who disliked every kid who wasn't a star athlete.

There are, however, a few things about gym class that I'll always remember.  The smell of the locker room.  The few times that I was in the same class as my best friend.  And the day when the teacher gathered us all on the bleachers and gave us "the talk."

No, not that talk:  this one was about body odor.  I don't remember which teacher drew the short straw and had to talk to us that day.  But I remember her trying to be very tactful, explaining that as we were growing up, we had to take additional steps in personal hygiene.  Most of us had already learned this from our parents, but we all knew at least one kid who really needed to hear this talk.  You know the one I mean?

Now Unilever has a website to help parents of "tweens" have this conversation with their kids.  It's called Don't Fret the Sweat, and it's pretty neat.  In addition to reading FAQs and getting expert advice, you can find the right product and print coupons for Unilever deodorants and anti-perspirants.

We had a chance to try two of the Degree products for men.  Mooseman, age 12, picked up the Degree Men Invisible Stick in Cool Rush fragrance and immediately said that he didn't care for the scent.  Instead, he tried Degree Men Deodorant with Silver Ion Technology, Arctic Edge fragrance.  His review is this:  "It works, but I wish it was unscented."  As his mom, I would agree that it works.  I'd add that I like both fragrances, but since Mooseman is the one who's wearing it all day, it's his choice.  I'm just glad to find a product that works!

Disclosure:  I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour campaign by Mom Central on behalf of Unilever and received the items necessary to facilitate my review. In addition, Mom Central sent me a gift card to thank me for taking the time to participate.

  3. Gym class...it was so awkward. In our class, we had to get dressed in front of everyone and then certain girls would compare boobs. It was humiliating. I hated gym class. And I wasn't very good at sports either, plus I had a recurring dislocation problem with my shoulder so I never wanted to try. i did one time play v-ball and that did it. I dislocated my shoulder right in gym class. UGH. thankfully as an adult I had that corrected, but I still don't like sports!

I have had that "talk" with my daughter too and she always forgets to put on deo. I pick her up from school sometimes (after only being there 2 hours) and she smells...bad. I'm like "did you put on deodorant today?" "No" she answers, "I forgot". UGHGHGHGHGH! So yeah, we need constant reminders over here too.
