This is so me.

I've known for years that I have a tendency toward perfectionism. A few weeks ago, my husband told me--in a very serious, hushed voice--that I'm not perfect. I pretended to be shocked and we had a good laugh.
What I didn't realize until recently is that constantly trying to be perfect is a major reason that I feel overwhelmed with everyday things. I mean, I'm not a perfect wife or mom or homemaker or anything else, let alone a perfect allofthosethings.
I'm working on this, but sometimes it helps to laugh at the absurdity of thinking that I could even approach perfection!

That is so me, too! I'm such a perfectionist that I hardly ever get anything done (over, finished, complete), and I have a feeling you know what I mean. ;)
ReplyDeleteI'm a recovering perfectionist but I learned something a couple of years ago - done is better than perfect, and 80% is good enough :)
ReplyDeleteGood post!!! I have a tendency towards perfectionism too...and it only leads to disappointment!
ReplyDeleteGreat post! I am a recovering perfectionist! Living in the country with animals and small children has gone a long way in leading to my recovery. Now my motto is "perfect is the enemy of good enough". ;-)
ReplyDeleteSo, so true! I put off doing so many things just because I don't think I can do them perfectly (imagine all I could accomplish if I settled for "good enough"). At least you're working on it -- I'm too stubborn (still aiming for perfection and failing miserably!)
ReplyDeleteAaah.... the trap of perfectionism lurks at the back of every mothers mind... Great post!!!
ReplyDeleteI have rebelled against perfection. And I am winning! hahaha
ReplyDeleteGrowing up my mom was a perfectionist. I remember thinking that I would never be that way with my kids.
I like Alea's saying "perfect is the enemy of good enough".
I am not perfect by any means, but I totally get sidetracked... LOL, like the start of the post about finding a puzzle piece, I do that... but just for the fact of getting of track in cleaning, nothing else! ha ha
ReplyDeleteGreat post! I can sometimes be like this and try to remind myself that nobody's perfect :)
ReplyDeleteWhy do we women do this to ourselves? I can so relate!
