Guest Post: Budget-Friendly Outdoor Fun

MMFYM logo
Since last summer, I've had the pleasure of working with Uniroyal and the More Mileage for Your Money blog portal.  Today I'm happy to share a guest post from Uniroyal.  I hope you enjoy it!

The weather is starting to get warmer and your family is probably ready to start spending time outdoors. Below you will find some outdoor activities that are not only fun, but can help you stay within any budget. If you are looking for even more ideas, check out the Family Fun for Less e-book on Uniroyal Tire’s More Mileage for Your Money blog portal.

Scavenger Hunt

This is a great activity if your neighborhood is made up of kids of varying ages. It will encourage them to work together in teams, with older kids helping out the younger ones. Divide kids into two teams and give each team a big bag and a list of things in your neighborhood, ranging from very easy to difficult to find. Check out this printable Scavenger Hunt List for a few ideas on how to get started. Set a time limit for them to collect as much as they can (30-60 minutes is ideal). Kids can also take photos of the items they scavenge, making it a photo safari.

Games, Games, Games

Have some old-fashioned fun by teaching traditional backyard games to a new generation of kids. These games have all stood the test of time because they get kids outside exercising, but don’t require expensive equipment. Raise the stakes by creating a backyard Olympics. Go the extra mile by keeping track of winners and awarding medals at the end of the games. Make sure to hand out medals for first place, second place and best sportsmanship.
