Sugar Cookie Bars

On Friday I was trying to choose a cookie recipe to bake. I was hoping to find something that was quick and easy, and I came across a recipe for sugar cookie bars. It's a winner!

The recipe calls for a 13 x 18 baking pan, which I don't have. I used an 11 x 17 pan, so my cookies are thicker than the original. I realized too late that 13 x 18 is equivalent to two 13 x 9 pans; that's what I'll use next time.

Instead of using the suggested buttercream frosting, I made a quick glaze with powdered sugar and water. I drizzled it over the cookies and sprinkled them with coarse decorating sugar. Another idea would be to top the dough with sprinkles before baking.

The bars are soft and dense, not too hard, and they do taste like sugar cookies. My family likes the process of making and decorating cut-out cookies for Christmas, but I'll definitely use this recipe for other occasions.

Tomorrow I'll tell you about another new-to-me cookie recipe. My family liked it even better than these!
