When I heard about the new Busy People's Fast & Frugal Cookbook by Dawn Hall, I had to check it out. The subtitle, comfort foods that are easy on the figure AND budget, is very appealing, don't you think?I haven't seen the book, except for some sample pages online. What I first noticed is that the author includes timing information for preparing an entire meal. This would be especially helpful for new cooks, but also for timing a dinner for company! Each recipe also includes nutrition information, including diabetic exchanges, and a grocery list.

I stock up on things like spaghetti sauce & pasta & other necessary items when they are on sale. That way I am paying the lowest price...then I keep recipes on hand that I can throw together with these ingredients...it works wonders in a pinch :) With 5 kids I need to be prepared

I would love to try the southwestern chicken enchilada soup...it sounds like the ingredients are mostly stuff I would have on hand & it sounds yummy - my kids will enjoy :)

Plan, Plan, Plan. Make meals ahead of time-enough for 2-3 dinners and freeze. I only recently started doing this. My youngest went to Kindergarten and have the whole day to myself. More time has made fast dinners easy. Crockpot dinners are good too. Thanks for the giveaway!

My "fast" trick is to cook hamburger ahead of time and freeze it, so you can just pull it out and stick it in the recipe that calls for cooked ground beef. You can also pat out your patties and freeze them as well. My "frugal" trick is to get that last bit of ketchup, spaghetti sauce, etc. out of the jar with a little bit of water. You wouldn't believe how much we throw away that sticks to the sides!!

I love to have lots of things chopped ahead of time and in the freezer so that I may pull out ingredients and throw them in at the last minute.
I also like to keep vegetables like yellow squash, pureed in the freezer. It mixes and cooks in well with casseroles and sauces and the family is never aware that they are getting additional vitamins snuck in. :-)

For fast and frugal meals, I try to always eat all of our leftovers. I think that throwing away leftovers is such a waste of money. I will make my hubby take them to lunch and feed them to my son for lunch the next day.

Awesome giveaway!! :)
My best tip for cooking fast and frugal is to take a few extra minutes to sit down and make a menu for the week. This way you don't waste time wandering around the grocery and spending extra money. :)
My fast-n-frugal tip is to make a double (or triple) batch of something and freeze it for future meals. When I'm feeling frazzled I can take sloppy joes or chilli out of the freezer for quick-n-healthy food!

My frugal tip is to buy staples when they are on sale and when you have coupons. By starting off with a cheap base you can add more expensive items and still have an inexpensive meal.

My tip is to make meals that are one dish meals that can be made up ahead of time so that all you have to do is put it in the oven when you get home.

We buy meat/poultry in bulk at the local supermarket. They do a special where you can get 5 specially marked packages for $20. They always have a few different types of beef/chicken/sausage ect, When we get home we cut everything up into portion sizes and put them in freezer bags. We also always keep the frozen steamer vegetables on hand. Keeping the meat/poultry in portion sized bags helps cut down on the defrost time and its easy to just grab that out of the freezer in a pinch
