The Amish Cook's Baking Book (Review)

A few months ago, I reviewed The Amish Cook at Home, a lovely book jam-packed with recipes, gorgeous photographs, and descriptions of Amish life. I fell in love with that book, but I think I like The Amish Cook's Baking Book even more!

The chapters of The Amish Cook's Baking Book cover all of my major food groups: Pies; Breads, Rolls, and Pastries; Cookies; Cakes; and Bars and Brownies. There's also a chapter on Special Occasions.

Author Lovina Eicher and her editor, Kevin Williams, have written another book that makes me feel as though I'm swapping recipes with an old friend. Practical tips, such as tips on baking with yeast, are mixed with conversational introductions, descriptions, and sidebars.

I don't know where to begin to tell you about the recipes in this book. They're all doable and, if I listed all of the ones that I want to try, I'm sure it would be at least half of the recipes in the book. Here are just a few: Apricot Pie, Butterscotch Pie, Overnight Butter Dinner Rolls, Delicious Peanut Butter Swirl Bars, Sour Cream Spice Cake, Shoofly Pie ... You can read an excerpt and see some of the gorgeous photographs (by Betsy Dellaposta) here.

Disclosure: I received this book, at no cost to me, for review purposes.
