The Frugal Foodie Cookbook - Review (Giveaway Closed)

Have you seen the Frugal Foodie blog that's in my blog list? If so, then you've probably already heard about this fabulous cookbook. If not, let me tell you!

I love The Frugal Foodie Cookbook: Waste-Not Recipes for the Wise Cook. It's fun to read, and the recipes are both frugal and doable. In fact, many of the recipes are time-savers as well as money-savers. The book is divided into chapters by mealtimes and occasions: breakfast, lunch, dinner, parties, snacks, and so on.

Nearly all of the recipes use "from scratch" ingredients, and some are homemade substitutes for pricey convenience foods.

Here are some examples of the recipes that are included:

  • Coffee drinks, like lattes and mochas
  • Casseroles and quiches for brunch
  • Homemade candies
  • Dirt-Cheap Self-Filling Cupcakes (I am so going to try these when the weather cools off!)
  • Exponential Chicken (one chicken feeds two people for five days)
  • Baby and toddler foods
  • Thrifty gifts - fancy soaps and foods that make frugal, lovely, handmade gifts

The pages also contain quotations, kitchen tips, trivia, and household tips. This book has earned a place in my kitchen.

From the back cover:

Lara Starr is a baker, blogger, and a cook with a calculator. Lynette Shirk is a four-star Frugal Foodie who learned how to stretch a dime from her Ohio grandmother. Together, they have cooked up a recipe-filled guide to eating better than ever on less. The Frugal Foodie Cookbook shows readers how to creatively and cleverly use ingredients and leftovers to produce wonderful, inexpensive meals for any occasion. ... With hundreds of delicious dishes and expert advice, The Frugal Foodie Cookbook keeps hungry readers living well and eating better.

Buy it: The Frugal Foodie Cookbook can be pre-ordered from Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble, or other retailers.

Win it: The publisher, Viva Editions, has generously offered a copy of The Frugal Foodie Cookbook, signed by co-author Lara Starr, to one lucky blog reader.
