Purple Trail - Review (Giveaway Closed)

Over the past few weeks, I've had a chance to try PurpleTrail, a website that offers a system to send party e-invitations and e-cards. The website is also loaded with party planning ideas.

Since I've sent e-cards in the past, I decided to try that first. Although there are many interesting pre-made designs, I wanted to try designing my own. The system reminds me of what digital scrapbooking would be like: you choose a background, then add photos, frames, embellishments, even music and video. Adding text to the design is a bit tricky; I understand that the PurpleTrail team is working on that.

You can see my first attempt at a card here. I'd like to see more designs that are suitable for men (i.e., cards that are not pink and flowery), and a family-friendly filter. Though a majority of the songs that you can add to the e-cards/invitations are family friendly, I would still like to be able to sort them from the ones that aren't.

Next I looked at the system for e-invitations. For this, I started with one of the available designs and added some text. The event page features include a map to the location, a list of invited guests and their responses (which can be hidden, if you prefer), and places for photos, polls, and thank-you notes.

The invitation system is very efficient and fun to use. I can't make good use of it because most of our family parties are small events and not everyone uses email or text messaging, but I can see many circumstances for which it would be a great tool. If I planned an event for more than a few people, it would be very convenient (as well as time-saving and frugal) to send invitations by email and allow people to respond online. The RSVPs are managed online, and there's even a chance to re-send an invitation or request a response after the initial invitation is sent.

PurpleTrail also offers a huge database of ideas for celebrations, party planning, wording for invitations, and more. There's so much to see, you just have to check it out for yourself!

So what does it cost?

You can sign up for free! The free membership allows you to send up to 75 email invitations per event, up to 250 per month. Paid memberships (ranging--at introductory-offer prices--from $14.95 to $49.95 per year) allow access to additional features such as the ability to send more invitations, to send invitations by SMS, to send announcements, to limit RSVP count, and to schedule an invitation to be sent later.

By the way, if you blog, check out the PurpleTrail Friends program.
