I'm so excited to have a chance to share with you one of my favorite things! If you've read more than a few posts here, you've heard me mention How to Cook Everything
I love that the book includes not only recipes but also background information on ingredients and equipment. For example, the chapter on Beans begins with an introduction, followed by these sections:
- The Basics of Buying and Preparing Beans (which includes two subsections: Plain Talk about Beans and Gas, and Freezing Home-Cooked Beans versus Buying Canned Beans)
- The Basics of Cooking Beans, which includes a list of 20+ varieties of dry beans, with the best uses and cooking time for each variety
How to Cook Everything is more than a cookbook: it's a kitchen reference book. I laughed when I read the review quote from Al Roker ("A week doesn't go by where I don't pull How to Cook Everything down from the shelf, so I am thrilled there's a new, revised edition. My original is falling apart!"). My copy is falling apart, too! I'm not getting a new copy, but you have a chance to win one, courtesy of the publisher, Wiley.
