How to Cook Everything - Review and Giveaway (Closed)

book cover
I'm so excited to have a chance to share with you one of my favorite things! If you've read more than a few posts here, you've heard me mention How to Cook Everything, by Mark Bittman. I regularly use his recipes for sourdough bread, pie crust, pudding, potstickers, soy and sesame dipping sauce, pickles, onion dip, and more. Besides those, there are dozens of recipes in this book that I've used on occasion: soups, pasta dishes, vegetables, chicken, beans ... I've probably tried recipes from every chapter of this book. This is one of only two cookbooks that I keep in my kitchen, because I refer to it so often.

I love that the book includes not only recipes but also background information on ingredients and equipment. For example, the chapter on Beans begins with an introduction, followed by these sections:
  • The Basics of Buying and Preparing Beans (which includes two subsections: Plain Talk about Beans and Gas, and Freezing Home-Cooked Beans versus Buying Canned Beans)
  • The Basics of Cooking Beans, which includes a list of 20+ varieties of dry beans, with the best uses and cooking time for each variety

How to Cook Everything is more than a cookbook: it's a kitchen reference book. I laughed when I read the review quote from Al Roker ("A week doesn't go by where I don't pull How to Cook Everything down from the shelf, so I am thrilled there's a new, revised edition. My original is falling apart!"). My copy is falling apart, too! I'm not getting a new copy, but you have a chance to win one, courtesy of the publisher, Wiley.
