Menu Plan Monday

Wow, this is my 100th post! It must be true that I talk too much!

It's another week and another meal plan. This week my son made the menu again, so I'll leave it in his words, except for the note I added for Tuesday. My review of last week's new recipe follows the menu plan.

Monday-Make your own subs

Tuesday-Pizza (We'll have family in town, and take-out pizza is a tradition.)

Wednesday-Hot Dogs

Thursday-The pasta we grab from the shelf with tomato sauce

Friday-Ravioli

I guess he's leaving it to me to plan the sides. :) We'll have to work on the nutrition aspect of menu planning, but his choices are mostly frugal and I appreciate his enthusiasm!

Last week we tried Lori's recipe for sloppy joes. I omitted the green pepper flakes (didn't have any) and the salt (I try to cook low-salt dishes whenever possible). It was nearly as easy as using the packet of seasoning, and I like being able to control the salt level! The aroma is just the same as with the packaged mix, so I think the spice blend is just right. My family likes spicy foods, so next time I'd kick it up with some fresh chopped onion and maybe increase the spices (in the same ratio). I'd also add some of the salt; we're used to eating low-salt, but I think salt-free was just a little bland, even for us!

  1. I'm glad y'all liked the Sloppy Joe mix...but what I really love about homemade is that you can spice it up or down according to your family's tastes! :)
Ravioli...love it!! Are you making your own?

  2. Your menu looks a lot like mine would if I let Tigger plan it and he is 16! Fortunately, teenagers like inexpensive food, because they like a lot of it.

  4. Lori - I'm using frozen ravioli. I haven't tried making my own (yet).

Alea - Tell me about it. My 11yo eats more than I do! We like to go to buffet places where he still qualifies for the child price, because it's a great value. :)

    Amanda - Thanks!

Susie - Thanks, but I think it's just that I talk too much. :)

I love sloppy joes, but I am the only one in my family who does:(
