Thankful Thursday: Wisdom

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline. (Proverbs 1:7)

One day recently I was feeling stressed about having a long to-do list and a short amount of time. I was on my knees--not praying, but looking for a book on a lower shelf--when the phone rang. My dad had been taken to the emergency room. As I stayed on my knees to pray, I was struck by the revelation that nothing on my to-do list was very important. The laundry, the grocery list, the dust on the tabletop ... all of that could wait.

I have two reasons to praise and thank God today. I'm thankful that my dad is fine. And I'm grateful for the instant "attitude adjustment" that God provided to me. I am trying to hold onto that reminder.

The verse I quoted above is my favorite Bible verse about wisdom. However, as I was writing this post, I came across a few more that I wanted to share:

Ephesians 1:17 I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better.

James 1:5 If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.

Colossians 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God.

Lynn is hosting Thankful Thursday this week.
