An Occasional Splurge: Lodge Dutch Oven


Although I try to be frugal in daily decisions, I do occasionally splurge on a toy that I can't resist. This Lodge Color Enameled Cast-Iron 6-Quart Dutch Oven was exactly that, and I have no regret about the purchase.

The pan has the weight and the heat distribution of cast iron, so it cooks evenly. Foods rarely burn in it. On the other side, it has the easy clean-up of enamel. I've read that it can be washed in the dishwasher but will lose the finish on the exterior, so I've been washing it by hand. It's usually quick, though, so I can't complain at all.

I've used this pot to make stew, spaghetti sauce, and pot roast; and it hasn't disappointed me yet. If you're looking for a big heavy Dutch oven, this is one to consider.
